Selective alveolo-bronchography in chronic pulmonary emphysema.

چکیده
A new method of bronchography, selective alveolo-bronchography (SAB), was described and recommended for clinical use in establishing correct clinical di agnosis of emphysema. The diagnosis of emphysema was made possible on the basis of morphologic findings in SAB. Further it was possible not only to differentiate emphysema from other chronic obstructive lung diseases, but also to distinguish the two types, centrilobular or panacinar, and to evaluate the grade of emphysema. In the final clinical assessment of these diseases the findings of SAB should be of course supplemented by clinical symptoms including the results of pulmonary function tests. We think that the present method contributes much to excluding the current confusion in the terminology of chronic obstructive lung diseases and is quite helpful to chest physicians, who have been aware of the difficulty in identi fying these diseases.

Postmortem assessment of chronic airways obstruction by tantalum bronchography.
Tantalum bronchography was performed on 22 left lungs obtained at necropsy. Seven were from patients dying in cor pulmonale as a result of chronic airways obstruction and 15 were from unselected necropsies. Of the latter group, nine had no evidence of respiratory disease and six had pathological changes of emphysema and bronchial mucous gland enlargement when the lungs were examined following f...

S TIMES AND INVESTIGATIVE METHODS change and contrast media are improved , one is tempted to assemble the various findings and correlate them with the known pathologic alterations in chronic bronchitis and pulmonary emphysema. The following text and illustrations deal with certain aspects of morphologic findings as seen by the clinician in the course of a pulmonary study. This study is based up...
متن کاملAbnormal transradiancy of one lung.
This paper describes a disease pattern with a distinctive clinico-radiological picture but of an undetermined pathology. The main features are quietening of the breath sounds and lessening of the radiographic lung markings with persistently greater transradiancy over one lung, the condition being distinguishable from simple unilateral obstructive emphysema by the small or normal size of the aff...
متن کاملInterferon γ Induction of Pulmonary Emphysema in the Adult Murine Lung
Chronic inflammation containing CD8(+) lymphocytes, neutrophils, and macrophages, and pulmonary emphysema coexist in lungs from patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Although this inflammatory response is believed to cause the remodeling that is seen in these tissues, the mechanism(s) by which inflammation causes emphysema have not been defined. Here we demonstrate that interfero...
